Do You Tell People When You Think They're Wrong?
By Brett at Godly Sheep
I’m sure you’ve heard the saying, “Opinions are like noses, everyone has one”, and the Internet has allowed everyone to show off just how good their’s smells. I didn’t want to discuss whether this was right or wrong (which would possibly make this one of the most ironic posts ever), but just wanted to ask what you did.
The Internet allows you the anonymity to easily confront anyone without worrying about much backlash. So what do you do when you see someone who is wrong or disagrees with you, do you find it your Christian duty to voice your opinion? Do you just pass over it all? Or do you write up your own post as to why that person was wrong? Does much get accomplished through arguing or discussion?
My answer:
I've been perusing PebHmong.com, and would always find myself in some sort of debate with non-believers in the Faith and Belief forum section. There are a lot of non-believers in that section who questions and contradicts Christian beliefs. A lot of them blame God and mainly likes to make fun of Christian believers. And when we write back giving them some answers to their questions, they'll reply back with questions of why we're mad and that since we're Christians, we shouldn't get offended or else it'll be a sin. My goodness! These people think we as Christians are supposed to be perfect or something! God has feelings too and so do we!!!
But, I figured, oh well. People who stick strongly to what their beliefs will never be easily convinced when you're just writing online and throwing bible verses at them. They don't even believe in what the bible says is true. So the only thing I can do is pray for those individuals.
That section seems to be taking a large amount of my time away from doing productive things, so I've been avoiding that section entirely. I better start avoiding PH altogether. That site can get addicting. A lot of those people are very judgmental at everything you posts. Besides all the interesting stuff I've learn from browsing those forums, I've learned how to write comebacks and also realize what a judgmental person I've become.
I've notice not much of anything gets accomplish because one debate will lead to another one, so I figured what's the point. Now I tend to just leave people on the Internet alone unless they are actually asking for advice or others' opinions. I especially ignore posts or entire blogs (I've noticed they are generally by Atheists or Shamans) that are inflammatory, spiteful or belittling and seem intended to goad Christians into getting into a fight so they can be ridiculed. Honestly, my "answers" would do no good, it would upset me, and their beliefs would not change.
